Top 5 Artists on my iPod

April 10th, 2008 Posted in life

1. Alanis Morissette

Alanis makes up the bulk of the music on my iPod. I know she is famous for cramming way too many words into each verse. I am also certain that her friends dare her to use ridiculously long words in her songs. But, I don’t care, they are some of the reasons why I love her music. The above video “So Pure” is my favourite Alanis music video.

2. Stella One Eleven

Stella One Eleven

Stella One Eleven are a Sydney electro-rock band. Lelak and I first saw them at Fair Day in 1998 and quickly became fans. Lelak built their website for them and the guys were generous enough to let us come to their gigs for free. Unfortunately, they broke up in 2004 and I still miss going to their gigs. I am hoping one day they will reform so I can dance around like an idiot to their fantastic music once again.

3. Genevieve Maynard

Genevieve Maynard

Genevieve is a former member of Stella One Eleven who is now doing her own solo work. Gen’s music is best described as an eclectic mixture of rock, blues and alt country. Have a listen to some of her work from the link on her name - trust me, you won’t regret it.

4. Jess McAvoy

Lelak and I first discovered Perth born singer songwriter Jess McAvoy when she was supporting Ani DiFranco. Actually, I am not sure who I enjoyed seeing more Jess or Ani. Jess’s music is most commonly described as urban folk, but you can make your own judgement by listening to some of her tracks here. The above video “See How I Go” may not be safe for work as Jess is kinda naked for the first part of it (though you don’t see anything except her very cool tattoos). Other music videos can be see by clicking on the link on her name.

5. Imogen Heap

I first heard Imogen Heap when she recorded a song for “The Lion, the Witch & The Wardrobe” soundtrack, so I tracked down her other stuff and feel love almost instantly. Imogen’s music is best described as electronica pop. Like almost every other artist she has a myspace page where you can listen to her music.

As you have probably guess I have a strong leaning to female singer songwriters. I can probably count on one hand the number of male singers I have on my iPod. I just prefer the female voice.

So, who makes it onto the list of your Top 5 on your iPod?
