Random Thoughts From Today
Last night I was reading Jew FAQ (Lelak is Jewish) and I was reading the 613 Mitzvot (commandments) that all good orthodox Jews should follow. One of the commandments is ” Not to castrate the male of any species; neither a man, nor a domestic or wild beast, nor a fowl”. This got me thinking, what if you are an Orthodox Jewish vet, would this mean that you can not desex any male dogs or cats? If it does (and I think it does), what would you do if your clients want their male animals desexed? Obviously if you have set up your practice in an area with a large Orthodox Jewish community, you wouldn’t get asked to do this, but if you haven’t do you then employ a non-Jew (gentile) to do your male desexes? Is this okay? Or are you breaking some rule by letting the desexing proceed? Yes, this is actually a concern of mine.
Yesterday it was a warm, almost summer’s day where the temperatures got up to 27C (80.5F). Today it was a cooler 17C (62.5F). However, when I left work at 5:30pm, it had plummeted to 12.6C (54.6F) with a ‘feels-like’ temperature of 3.6C (38.4F). It was bloody freezing and I was not dressed to deal with it being so cold. The forecast also said there would be “a wintry shower or not”. What the hell is a wintry shower and how is it different from a normal shower? Is the rain colder? The BOM really needs a glossary if they are going to start using weird terms.
We calculated the distance of our morning dog walk - and it is 4.6km which we cover in 55 minutes. I told my co-workers this and they were shocked that I walk so far every morning. Is this because it is a long distance or do I look like I wouldn’t be able to do it? What are your thoughts, is about 5km a long way to walk on a daily basis? I used to think that I really didn’t do much exercise, but I may need to revise this line of thought.

i’m just shocked that you have that much time to walk before work. i don’t start til 10 most days and i still have trouble doing a 10 minute walk around the block with our dog before work (it usually ends up just being a quick trip across the road to the park)

Shawna, you have to get up earlier. I get at 5:50am, take the dogs for an hour long walk, do some quick stuff around the house, grab some breakfast and am out the door at 7:45am to catch my bus to work.

Six AM! Six AM! The psychology of waking to something with a 5 at the front is too horrible to contemplate.

And you guys used to tease me for my pre-6 get ups
And I adore it at this time of year on the other side of the world when I wake up at 5.30 and it’s light outside.
As for the walking time - I reckon that’s perfectly cool. I walk to work every fews days now, which clocks in at 90 minutes precisely. In The Hague I used to walk 45 minutes in to the station every morning through some fab forest.

Nyssa, yes I know we did use to mock you about getting up so early. But honestly, I would not get up if I didn’t have to walk the dogs. I love my bed, especially at this time of the year when it is getting cold outside.
