New Blog

August 2nd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in blogs

Since changing Dancing About Architecture to being just about social media, I have missed blogging about life and general stuff.  So like all insane bloggers, I have created a new blog Rainbow of Chaos.

So if you are missing reading my random thoughts, please go and sign up for my new blog’s feed.

At the moment, it is just a Wordpress.com blog, but I am finding myself getting myself annoyed at the limitations of the free Wordpress blogs and the horrible free themes, that I may soon change it over to a self-hosted version.

Chocolate and Blogging

June 15th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in blogs

Leigh from All For Women and Crazy Meezer is organising a meet up for all female bloggers in the Sydney area. To make this meet up extra appealing, it will be taking place at Max Brenner’s in Parramatta that is rumoured to have chocolate in every single dish on the menu.

Blogging meet ups are a great way to meet fellow bloggers and exchange ideas and tips as well as just have fun. I am definitely going along to this meet up not only because I love chocolate, but because I haven’t met very many other female bloggers. Also I want to finally be able to meet the girls I have been chatting to on Plurk.

Other bloggers who have already signed up are Christie from Fig & Cherry and Fern from Not Nigella so please come along as they say the more, the merrier.

Details

Where: Max Brenner’s - Church St Paramatta just opposite the train station

When: Sunday 29th June

Time: 11am

Please RSVP in the comments if you would like to come along and if you are bringing a gust. I will then pass names and numbers to Leigh so that she can book us a table.

Blogging Taboos - What won’t you blog about?

June 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in blogs

Taboo Reading my way through the blogosphere I am constantly amazed by what people will blog about. They happily blog about topics that I would not feel comfortable sharing or topics that I would love to blog about but know that it is perhaps not the wisest thing for me to do.

Crystal from Boobs, Injuries & Dr. Pepper has blogged about being institutionalised at mental hospital after trying to kill herself and is now blogging about the events in her life that lead her to suicide attempt. It is raw, real and is an amazing read about what one person can endure. She has received many abusive comments on her blog, but still she continues on telling her story. I know that I would not be able to share something so personal and painful and I admire her strength to be able to do so.

Jamie from Transman Diaries is blogging his journey transitioning from a woman to a man. Again, this is another very personal subject and Jamie shares not only his first attempt to inject testosterone but also his experiences working in law firm where he was hired as a woman. I know Jamie is blogging because he wants to bring awareness and a personal face to the transgender community, but he is also taking a great risk sharing his life online and you can’t help but admire that.

The one thing I refuse to blog about is my work. I may mention little odd incidents that happen in the office like trying to track down who was leaving toilet paper on the bathroom floor, but I will not blog about workplace relationships or more serious things that go on in the office. Whilst I do blog under an assumed name, my blog is clearly displayed on my Facebook profile and I do have people from work friended. Workmates are also following me on Twitter and Plurk. Sometimes it drives me insane that I have this self-imposed restricition about blogging about work because my work can provide such fabulous blog fodder, but I don’t want to follow Dooce and get fired because what I have said about my work on my blog.

So what are your blogging taboos? What topics do you refuse to blog about? If you are a niche blogger or don’t write a blog what topics do you not share online? Although if you do have a niche blog and there are some things in niche that you don’t blog about, I would be interested in hearing what they are.

New Comment System

May 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in blogs

You may have noticed that there is a brand new comment system on here called Disqus. Disqus makes comments more interactive by allowing you to see where else people have left comments (if the blogs use Disqus), their profile and a feed of the commenter’s blog, Facebook and Twitter updates. A nice feature of Disqus is the ability to reply directly to someone else’s comment, which I hope will let your guys have some conversations amongst yourselves. You can also rate comments by using the up or down arrows next to the comment.

You don’t have to use all the features of Disqus, you can just enter your details as you used to and leave your comment, but if you want to get involved you can sign up to DIsqus, upload an avatar, write a brief profile and enter in your blog/Facebook/Twitter feed.

Have a play around with it and let me know what you think of it.

Welcome

April 5th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in blogs

Welcome to my brand new home on the internet. I am currently still getting things set up and playing around the settings, so please excuse the mess. However, if you notice any thing odd or something not working, please let me know.

Once again, a huge thank you to Leigh from Crazy Meezer and All For Women for getting everything organised and putting up with my really dumb questions.
