May 19th, 2008 Posted in movies

Nicole Kidman & Hugh JackmanThe new Baz Luhrmann film Australia has released its trailer online on Bigpond today before a general release online tomorrow. The new film stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman along with Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, David Wenham, Barry Otto, Bill Hunter and John Jarrett. The cast list is really a who’s who of the Australian film industry.

The romantic action-adventure is set in northern Australia prior to World War II, about an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits an outback property the size of Belgium.

When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to drive 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin by Japanese forces.

Australia will be released in cinemas across the country on November 13 and in the US on November 14th.

You can play “Australian Cinema Cliche Bingo” from the trailer alone.

Bugger, I was hoping for a better plotline. Might be better than it sounds but as Lelak said, it’s a been there, done that storyline .
This sort of laziness has crept into a lot of Aussie productions of late, too much playing it safe and flogging to death a tried and proven formula.
