Petulance

January 25th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in blogs

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and opinions on the name for my new pet care blog.  As you can probably tell I have decided on Petulance - the information blog for Australian Pet Owners.  The majority of people seemed to prefer the name, plus it means that my blog will not be restricted to answering and discussing pet problems, but I can also talk about current issues involving pets, holidaying with pets and everything pet related that I could possibly think about.

At the moment, I am busy working on the design layout over at Petulance, so please excuse all the mess.  I plan to launch the site on Monday 28th January *crossed fingers*, so please come over for the grand opening.

In the meantime, if you have any pet questions, please submit them using the nifty Submit A Question page  or if you have any post ideas, great sites to link to or anything else, then put them in the Contact Me page.

Don’t worry, I won’t be abandoning you guys over here for the furry pet world, but I may be a little quiet over the next few days as I tinker around.  Then again, I might be very loud as I vent about all the things I have stuffed up.

Choosing a Blog Name

January 23rd, 2008 | 12 Comments | Posted in blogs

Choosing a name for your blog is probably the most underrated yet difficult task facing a blogger.  You want to choose something that relates to what you are blogging about, is catchy and memorable but it must be unique and not too similar to another blog or company. For a person like myself, who was not gifted with the ability to come up with really cool names, it is damn near impossible.

Fortunately, in choosing a name for my new pet care blog I have been ably assisted by my wonderful readers, the ingenious members of the Aussie Bloggers’ Forum and my amazing girlfriend and friends.

I have now narrowed the choice for a new name down to two. Both are very, very good, which is why I can’t choose between them. I am appealing to you, my wonderful readers to help me make the choice.  Both names are very catchy and memorable so they win in those stakes, but I just can’t decide which one will appeal to pet owners the most.

The choices are;

Petty Problems - Suggested by the ingenious Naomi

Petulance - Suggested by my gorgeous girlfriend.

Tell me which one appeals to you the most and, if you can put it in words, why.

Also get your pet questions ready.  I am hoping to launch my new blog early next week.

Vale: Heath Ledger

January 23rd, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in life

Heath LedgerThe Sydney Morning Herald has just announced the death of Australian actor Heath Ledger from a possible drug overdose. He was found by his housekeeper this afternoon at 3:30pm New York time in his Soho apartment.

Whilst I wasn’t a huge fan of his, I did really enjoy his performance in Ten Things I Hate About You and admired his courage in tackling an extremely difficult role in Brokeback Mountain for which he earned an Oscar nomination.

It is always a shame to see a life lost through drugs, especially one of such a talented young individual. Hopefully his death might make young Australians stop and think before they shoot up.

I feel most sorry for his two year daughter Matilda, who will now grow up without her father in her life. One wishes that he stopped and thought about her before taking those drugs today.

Edit: Since writing this post it has been revealed that Heath’s death was due to an accidental overdose of sleeping pills and not illegal drugs as originally suspected.  A timely warning of the dangers of apparent “safe” medication and how you should never exceed the recommended maximum dose.

The Joys of Swimming

January 21st, 2008 | 8 Comments | Posted in swimming

I really love swimming.  I love the feel of water on my body and how relaxed being in the water makes me feel.  I use my swimming time to unwind from the day and to think things over. I even construct blog posts in my head whilst making my way up and down the pool.

What I don’t enjoy about swimming is getting cramps.  Every session, I get a cramp somewhere, usually in my feet.  Most of the time I can stretch it out and keep on swimming, but unfortunately that was not the case today.  My left foot cramped up and refused to stop.  I tried all my tricks, but nothing work.  Thus my workout was cut short at 25 laps  (1.25km).  My body has obviously gotten used to doing more than 30 laps, cause 25 laps didn’t even feel like a workout.  I didn’t have that glorious ‘I have worked hard’ feeling that my body gets after doing 35 laps.  It was a real letdown.  Obviously, I have become addicted to the endorphins.  Still 25 laps is better than nothing.

Decisions, decisions

January 21st, 2008 | 10 Comments | Posted in blogging, blogs

I have been thinking over the past couple of days that I have a lot of pet knowledge gained when I was working as a veterinary nurse that I would like to share.  I am sick to death of seeing all this misinformation out there on the internet about pet care and would like to create a resource of information for both new pet owners and long time pet owners.

I thought about doing it in a blog format rather than a static website as blogs are so easy to update and maintain, but my main sticking point is whether I should incorporate the pet information into this blog or create a brand new blog.  My gut is telling me that a new blog would be more useful rather than mixing pet information amongst posts about my life.  I can’t imagine a lot of pet owners would be interested in my swimming workouts or my ramblings on about life.  However, with a new blog one must have a new name and I am terrible at thinking up names that are unique.  It took me ages to come up with Dancing About Architecture.

So, what are you thoughts?  Is a new blog about pet care the way to go?  If so, what should I call it? Also, how many of you would be interested in reading a blog about pet care?
